A New Place to Call Home

Construction complete at the 39th home in our Affordable Rental Program

Nov. 21, 2022 – Just days after the building department issued a Certificate of Completion on the house-recycling project pictured above, a family of six became our newest tenants in this gorgeous 3-bedroom home.

This exciting project was a culmination of community wide collaboration, including the Nantucket Housing Authority, the Community Preservation Committee, the Affordable Housing Trust, the Cottage Hospital, the Community Foundation for Nantucket, and ReMain Nantucket, as well as generous gifts from donors, especially summer residents Jamie and Elyse Leventhal.

You can follow this home’s scenic journey through the Surfside neighborhood last summer. After a year of construction, we awarded the home by lottery to a family of six in October 2022. Amenities include rooftop solar panels, large yard, and a full basement. Rent was set at $2,170/month plus utilities, an amount affordable based on the tenant household’s income.

Thanks in large part to those who supported this project, the community we serve has expanded. Price-accessible rental housing plays a key component in addressing the island’s affordable housing needs, and changes the lives of generations of Nantucket families. Additionally, our house-recycling program supports island preservation efforts by saving structures from the landfill. With the addition of this recycled house, our rental fleet now includes 39 properties with another 22 units under construction.
