May 19, 2021- A lot has happened these past few weeks at 31 Fairgrounds Road, as the future of Wiggles Way apartments begins to materialize.

In order for this housing to be included on Nantucket’s Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI) list, the project needs to be approved by the Department of Housing and Community Development. Earlier this month, officials from DHCD came to Nantucket to visit the site and learn more about the project. The site’s proximity to transportation, the schools, shopping and other amenities met best practice guidelines for community development. And the project was warmly received.

The Planning Board approved site design modification, including building placement, driveway configuration and parking layout.

We will submit our HDC application in the next few weeks. Wish us luck! Once HDC approves our design, then the modular pieces will be ordered. Construction will begin immediately after they are delivered.

Most recently, the buildings currently located on the site were prepared to be moved. The existing house is slated to move over-the-road to a lot approved for subdivision through the Covenant program. Below, Warren Ard, who was hired to move the house by the Covenant lot owner, prepped the house for its relocation on June 9th.


Housing Nantucket will advertise for the units about 3 months before construction is complete. Units included on the Subsidized Housing Inventory will be available to households earning below 80% of the Area Median Income and will be awarded by lottery.
