Donations of Houses or Materials

Housing Nantucket is always interested in your unwanted house. We have created a helpful document to understand the tax implications of your donation - Donating for the Benefit of Affordable Housing & IRS Publication-526. If you have unwanted appliances, cabinets, or furnishings, you may contact the office to find out what our current needs might be. We cannot always accept donations of materials. If we cannot accept your donation, consider contacting the Nantucket Reuse eXchange (REX). To find out more about giving go to donating.

About House Recycling

Our highly successful House Recycling Program creates affordably year-round rental homes for low and moderate income islanders, on scatterd sites. House recycling is innovative and cost effective program because private individuals donate unwanted but structurally sound dwellings.

The organization then relocates, rehabilitates, and rents affordably, using vacant residential lots provided by the Town and deed-restricted to affordable housing uses. Housing Nantucket has successfully relocated, rehabilitated, maintained, and managed twenty five homes since 1994. The recycled homes are set in established neighborhoods and while every dwelling is different, the homes blend in with those around them.

Island families who live in our homes can rely on year round affordable rent, an on-island landlord for management and maintenance, and no risk that they will lose their home because the owner has decided to sell or rent seasonally.

View our house move listings if you are interested in purchasing a house that was offered to us but does not meet the needs of our rental program. The funds from these houses will be used to support our program.
